Driving Towards a Sustainable Future

The ACT Expo, an annual event showcasing the latest in clean transportation and sustainable mobility solutions, took place from May 20 to May 23, 2024, in Las Vegas. It brought together industry professionals, policymakers, manufacturers, and fleet operators to explore innovations in alternative fuels, electric vehicles, renewable energy, and other technologies aimed at reducing emissions and promoting environmental sustainability in the transportation sector.

We were excited to participate in the event, showcasing our mini-bus, the eJEST by Karsan Automotive, as a symbol of zero emissions for communities across North America. As cities tackle the urgent need to decarbonize their transportation sectors, effective solutions are crucial for optimal outcomes. Specifically designed for low ridership areas, the eJEST boasts a compact size and car-like convenience with its 4-wheel suspension.

Transitioning to zero-emission buses can significantly reduce CO2 emissions in larger cities, eliminating approximately 53,000 tonnes annually—equivalent to removing 12,000 cars per city. Understanding the environmental impact of buses is crucial. For instance, if a minibus replaces a 40-foot bus, it saves about 80,000 kg of CO2 per year.

In numerous suburban areas, large buses remain dominant, leading to inefficient schedules, passenger discomfort due to long wait times, and poor bus transfers. These factors contribute to low ridership, resulting in nearly empty buses traversing our streets and reduced revenue for transit systems. The Karsan eJEST, particularly when paired with on-demand services, enhances ridership and facilitates the launch of deviated fixed-route services. Additionally, it's fully accessible and can serve as a paratransit bus.

The eJEST presents a significant cost advantage, offering 6-8 hours of service for just 3-4 CAD (2.40-3.20 USD), far less than the cost of a gallon of diesel. If you haven't already, please take a moment to watch the video showcasing Saint John's cost-saving experience with the eJEST.

Additionally, drivers' engagement is key to extending the bus's range, as they can utilize regenerative braking. We've received positive feedback from drivers who value the eJEST's superior working environment, enhancing their overall experience.
