Insights from CTA Fall Conference & Expo: Funding Opportunities Announced

At the recent California Transit Association Fall Conference & Expo in Long Beach, EVC (Electric Vehicle Choice) and Damera Corporation proudly showcased the Karsan eJEST — North America’s first fully electric, low-floor minibus.

The vehicle drew strong interest from transit professionals, agency leaders, and city representatives looking for practical and cost-effective zero-emission solutions. With growing attention on fleet renewal, the eJEST stood out as a right-sized vehicle designed specifically for everyday use, frequent stops, and community routes.

Right-Sized Design for Smarter Transit

Transit agencies across North America are rethinking traditional fleet composition — recognizing that smaller, more agile vehicles can serve routes more efficiently, especially in suburban and on-demand networks.

The Karsan eJEST is built for these realities.

  • Fully accessible with low-floor entry and wheelchair ramp
  • Durable 12+ year lifecycle designed for intensive urban use
  • Compact 6-meter footprint for easier maneuverability
  • Quiet, zero-emission operation with low operating costs

Its compact design and electric efficiency allow agencies to deploy up to four eJEST minibuses for the cost of one standard 40-foot electric bus, significantly increasing coverage and frequency without increasing total investment.

Funding Support Through California’s HVIP Program

One of the key discussion points at the conference was the availability of California’s Clean Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP) funding.

Through this program, agencies can receive up to $58,500 in point-of-sale incentives toward eligible zero-emission vehicles like the Karsan eJEST. Managed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), HVIP helps transit agencies accelerate fleet electrification and lower the cost barrier for clean technology adoption.

Damera, together with EVC — an authorized HVIP dealer — assists agencies through every step, from voucher application to vehicle delivery, training, and ongoing service.

A Practical Path to Electrification

The insights from this year’s conference highlight a growing consensus: scalable, right-sized, and data-connected vehicles will play a key role in the zero-emission transition. The Karsan eJEST represents that vision — a modern, versatile vehicle that’s both cost-effective and community-focused.
