Oakville Transit proudly unveils its inaugural fleet of e-JEST electric buses, manufactured by Karsan, to revolutionize on-demand transportation services in Oakville, Ontario.
Delivered in January 2023, these 20-foot e-JEST vehicles are set to replace Oakville's existing diesel buses, offering a cleaner and more efficient alternative. Scheduled to commence service this spring, these buses will enhance Oakville Transit’s offerings, including Care-A-Van, Home to Hub, and Ride On-Demand services.
To support this transition, Oakville Transit has installed ten charging stations at its operations facility, ensuring seamless integration of the new electric fleet.
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Oakville, remarked:“The arrival of the first zero-emission, battery-electric, specialized buses in Oakville marks an exciting milestone for our community, bringing us closer to a net-zero emissions future by 2050.”
Looking ahead, Oakville Transit is set to receive its first batch of 15 larger electric buses for conventional services in early 2024. Over the next five years, Oakville Transit aims to convert approximately 50 percent of its fleet from diesel to electric, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
