🚍 Exciting News in Saint John! 🎉
Big changes are happening on the west side as a new flex service, known as Flex, rolls into town. 🔄📱 Westside residents can now enjoy on-demand public transit by requesting a bus through a convenient app or a simple phone call, replacing the limited-hour Routes 13 and 14.
What makes Flex stand out? 🌟 These all-electric buses operate within a flexible zone, ditching fixed routes and schedules. Commuters now have extended service hours, starting as early as 6:30 a.m. and running until 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, with weekend service from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Meet Rebekah Brayton, who's thrilled about the extended service window, providing more flexibility for her commute. However, there are concerns, especially for seniors like Lottie Davis, regarding the use of the app. The good news? Riders can also access the service by calling 506-652-Flex (3539).
Flex aims to improve service in low-ridership areas, offering a more flexible and broader operation of hours. 🔄🚌 The move away from fixed schedules prevents service deterioration over time. Plus, the cost-effectiveness of electric buses steals the spotlight, with a lower cost per hour compared to diesel buses.
Inspired by successful services in southern Ontario, Flex is not a one-size-fits-all solution but a strategic move tailored for specific areas. Future plans include expanding the service to other neighborhoods, starting with the northern portion of Millidgeville and potentially in east Saint John.
Exciting times for Saint John residents! 🌆🔜
